Spirit HDTV Transfers
To meet the demand for high-resolution transfers, the Thomson Spirit HDTV DataCine. At the heart of the Spirit is an advanced film imaging head, designed by Eastman Kodak. It utilizes proprietary CCD technology from Kodak, along with customized high-performance optics and advanced illumination control. The Spirit can transfer at several high-definition resolutions including 24psf, 444 RGB HD as well as NTSC and PAL. The Spirit is ideally suited for many types of projects including:
  • Music videos, commercials and television shows
  • Feature film mastering
  • Archival and restoration

Tape-to-Film Transfers
We offer outstanding Tape-to-Film transfers to 16mm and 35mm Film. We have recently set-up a new high resolution system to handle the growing demand for 35mm. The 35mm process involves digitizing your video or digital tapes to computer files. For NTSC source material, we convert to 24 frames-per-second with a proprietary algorithmic process that removes frames in a way that limits motion artifacts. Then we uprezz the images to 2K resolution (2048 x 1556 pixels) with interpolation. Our algorithmic process analyzes the original pixels and creates new information (other methods just duplicate original pixels.) We record to 35mm Kodak Intermediate Stocks on one of the two Arrilaser Film Recorders. For long projects, we recommend a 1-minute test to see what it will look like before you commit to the entire job. Take a look at some of our projects.

Digital Titles and Special Effects
We create our titles and effects on SGI, Macintosh and Windows platforms with a wide range of software including Cineon Storm, Softimage, Discrete Combustion , Shake and Adobe After Effects. The loss-less digital process is especially appropriate for Blow-ups to 35mm. For films such as "Ulee's Gold" and "Slam" we scanned in S16mm negative, composited it with a digital title sequence and then recorded to 35mm film.

Blow-ups to 35mm from 16mm and Super 16mm
DuArt is the preeminent place for Blow-ups. We engineered the first computer controlled optical printing machines able to handle either A&B zero-cut or single-strand-cut negative for conform in-camera blow-ups. The computer controls the printer's movements, minimizing stress on the original negative. The optical printers are calibrated to the timing information from DuArt's Color Analyzers. So, our Blow-up Intermediates and Blow-up Prints are beautifully timed. In addition, we are experts in handling multiple film formats. Our experienced staff has the talent to handle the most complicated jobs and the most discerning clients.

Cineon files can be downloaded into our Editbox for a digital on-line editing session. Click here for our scanning specs. The Cineon offers the highest quality scanning. The Cineon's DXR color technology captures the full dynamic range of the image allowing maximum control over color grading and manipulation.
