Transfers in Hi-Def
We have 4 Telecine Suites and many talented
Colorists. We utilize the ultimate equipment including the
Thomson Spirit HDTV Datacine with DaVinci 2K color correction.
For standard def transfers our Ursa Diamond Y- front with
DaVinci 888 color correction produces one of the best images.
Your 35mm or 16mm film can be transferred to D1, D2, D5, D5-HD,
HDCAM,HDCAM-SR, DVC ProHD, Digital Betacam, Beta SP, DVC Pro, Mini
DV, DVCAM, Umatic, Umatic SP, Hi-8, 8mm, SVHS, VHS, DVD and

Spirit
HDTV Transfers
The heart of the
Spirit is it's advanced film imaging head , designed by Eastman
Kodak. It utilizes proprietary line array CCD technology from
Kodak, along with customized high performance optics and Xenon
illumination. The Spirit can transfer at several high definition
resolution including 24 Psf, 444 RGB HD, as well as NTSC and Pal
The Sprit is ideally suited
for many projects including:
Feature film mastering
Archival and Restoration
Content for HDTV broadcast

Scene-to-Scene
Transfers
This is our best quality
transfer and it is color corrected shot by shot. This type of
transfer is used to make broadcast quality masters. We can sync
sound in suite and create flex or ALE files with all the information
your editor needs. This process is perfect for transferring
original negative for weekly television shows or commercials.
The Scene-to Scene process is also ideal for making high quality
masters from finished elements such as Master Positives and
Low Contrast Prints for feature film and documentaries.

Overall
Transfers
This type of transfer
is color corrected shot by shot for a pleasing picture , but
it is not perfectly finessed like the Scene-to-Scene. The
Overall transfer is used primarily for projects that are finished
on tape and a high ratio of film is shot. For some projects,
the Overall process can save clients money. Dubs are made
off the Overall Masters, which can be edited off-line in our
Avid editing suites. Then an on-line edit is done in our Avid Nitris, Final Cut or Avid Symphony to conform the Overall Master Tapes. Finally
, DaVinci tape-to-tape color correction is done to achieve
broadcast quality. The whole process can be done on digital formats to avoid generation loss.

Video Dailies
Our timed video
dailies are used are used for creative editorial so that negative
can be re-accessed for a scene-to-scene transfer, or for a
negative cut for film printing. We are experts in the match-back
to film process. If you are editing on video for release on
film, you should contact a negative cutter before sending
the film into the laboratory to be developed .
This is advised so that the
film is transferred with the specifications that a particular
negative cutter can use to cut negative from video work-tape.

Video Daily
Timing Report
Invented by DuArt,
this service gives the cinematographer a report with film
timing numbers in relation to the time code on the video daily.
We actually time the negative on a Hazeltine Analyze to before
it is transferred to video. The film timing numbers can help
a DP analyze the exposure of the negative in the absence of
film workprinting.

Liquid
Gate Transfer
We are considered
experts in handling archival or damaged material. Liquid gate
can be used in transfer to enhance the image quality . Certain
types of scratches the wetgate can eliminate. Available on
both 16mm and 35mm.

Film and
Video Restoration
Whether your film
has dirt , blemishes, chemical stains or persistent vertical
scratches, our MTI CORRECT
system can repair these problems. The system can repair
film that that has also been transferred NTSC , PAL, all formats
of HD and Data files up to 4K.

Avid Rental Suites
We offer Avid Film
Composer and Media Composer Editing Suites with resolutions
up to AVR 77 in NTSC and PAL . You can edit 24 hours a day,
7 days a week at the same place you have all your other postproduction
services done. Our excellent support staff of engineers, colorists,
sound mixers and on-line editors are available to assist you.

Avid Nitris
The Avid DS Nitris system offers multi-stream, 10-bit uncompressed HD, Avid DNxHD, and SD finishing and mastering as well as HD-RGB and 2K/4K file-based editing with real-time playback up to 2K. It combines advanced creative and finishing software with high-performance Avid Nitris Digital Nonlinear Accelerator hardware for real-time editing and effects. Create, edit, and master TV programs, films, and commercials-even theatrical releases-with the resolution-independent Avid DS Nitris system
New to the Nitris room is the dual boot Avid Symphony Nitris option This allows a greater integration with other avid systems for online conforming
All this in a room with 5.1 Genelec surround sound monitoring, A 42 inch Panasonic plasma and 24 inch Sony BVM for broadcast and consumer monitoring options, styled in Country French with a large client relaxing area.

Avid Symphony
Editing
The Symphony offers customers the best
non-linear 601 on-line systems at DuArt. It enables customers
to take a list created in an Avid or Final Cut offline and
conform it in a true 601 ( D1 Quality ) on-line. A full palate
of Avid effects are available.

Cut Pro Editing
Our Final Cut Pro
edit suite offers the customer, conforming of High Definition
and Standard Definition projects. With our Final Cut 5.1,
Black Magic SD & HD interface and lots of XRAID storage, we
can handle most projects and can tap into the large selection
of standard def and high def tape machines available at Duart.

Tape-to-Tape
Color Correction
Our DaVinci 2K and DaVinci 8:8:8 Tape-to-Tape color
correction is the way to finish projects that originate on tape.
Tape-to-Tape color correction is also done after an on-line
edit in conjunction with the Overall Transfer process for projects
that originate on film. In addition, it is used to prepare programs
for Tape-to-Film transfers.

TeraNex
Xantus Conversions
The TeraNex Xantus
Converter is an all-in-one , state of the art HDTV and SDTV
converter. The converter can input any signal whether it's
High Definition, PAL or NTSC and can convert it to any other
standard. The TeraNex creates sharp, detailed images and preserves
the integrity of the color from one standard to another. The
TeraNex Converter will do:
Up-conversions:NTSC or PAL to HDTV
Down-conversions HDTV to NTSC or PAL
Cross-conversions:HDTV to HDTV
Standards-Conversions:NTSC or PAL to NTSC or PAL
Plus noise reduction, detail enhancement, timecode conversion
and aspect ratio conversion

DVD Production
A full line of services are available in house. Two DVD authorists, using the most state of the art equipment. Encoding is on the hand built hardware Digital Vision Bitpack MPEG2 encoder. Costing over $100K, this encoder, really shines for excellent picture quality with long programs and low bitrates.
Authoring is on DVD Studio Pro 4 with a full complement to extra including Final Cut, After Effects, Motion and Bryce. We have a dedicated graphic artist for menu design
The Production department is staffed with a packaging designer, where we can print with silk screen quality on the disc with Rimage Everest Printing , four color Xante' Jacket insert printing. DVD's are duplicated on a Rimage Autostar II and for the final touch ,Shrink Wrapping of the Amaray cases

We offer duplication services for a wide variety of tape formats
and DVD, including bulk rates and packaging. Whether you need
dubs for editing, ad agency, studio executives, or mass distribution,
we can handle your needs.

Tape-to-Film
Transfers
We offer outstanding Tape-to-Film transfers to 16mm and 35mm
Film. We have a high resolution system to handle the growing
demand for 35mm. The 35mm process involves digitizing your
video or digital tapes to computer files. For NTSC source
material, we convert to 24 frames-per-second with a proprietary
algorithmic process that removes frames in a way that limits
motion artifacts. Then we uprezz the images to 2K resolution
(2048 x 1556 pixels) with interpolation. Our algorithmic process
analyzes the original pixels and creates new information (other
methods just duplicate original pixels.) We record to 35mm
Kodak Intermediate Stocks on one of our two Arrilaser
Film Recorders. For long projects, we recommend a 1-minute
test to see what it will look like before you commit to the
entire job.
We also offer a lower cost tape
to 16mm film transfer, which is based on the kinescope method.
The quality of this process is very good. Color and B&W
film stocks are available.

Sound
Syncing
At DuArt, we can sync during the transfer or in an audio layback
suite. For video dailies we offer a specialized syncing process.
When we synch the sound to your video daily, the sound is simultaneously
transferred to a DAT cassette, which we call a SimulDAT. This
simplifies the sound process. Rather than having two sets of
timecode (video and audio) the SimulDAT has time code on it
that matches the video daily. The SimulDAT becomes the master,
which is used with an EDL to auto-conform the audio for a sound
post.
